Lower School Rotations

Clare Goodman —

We are fortunate at Raphael House to have kaiako with a wide range of different experiences and skills.

This year the Lower School has introduced ‘Rotations’ to the timetable to take full advantage! Twice a week Classes 5, 6 and 7 mix into multilevel groups and head off to a different part of the school. Over the course of the term ākonga get to experience new subjects in fun and interactive way and have the chance to build connections outside their class grouping.

Tegan, our Class 7 kaiako, has been taking art lessons. Each ākonga gets a chance to build up their drawing skills, and experiment with new mediums including watercolour and chalk painting.

Our storyteller is Dorothea, who normally teaches Lower School Music. Ākonga hear stories from different parts of the world, including Africa and Peru, and respond with conversation and drawing.

For STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) we are fortunate to be able to steal away one of the Upper School Science teachers, Sarah. Ākonga are given challenges each week that develop not only their understanding of these subjects, but also their creativity and collaboration skills.

Our final rotation, is taken by our Class 5 kaiako, Louise. A former High School PE teacher, Louise is able to bring new and exciting games for ākonga to play that help to develop different physical skills.
