German "Jutebeutel-Projekt"

Borders closed, no exchanges - it's a difficult time to engage with German in Aotearoa/NZ, but thanks to the National German Advisor, Class 8 and 9 students have had the opportunity for an exchange of a different kind this term.

"Jutebeutel" [ˈjuːtəˌbɔɪ̯tl̩] is the German word for tote bags.

Those forever useful bags you can use to store a multitude of items in. 

With no exchanges possible between Germany and Aotearoa/NZ this year, Class 8 and 9 German have taken part in a national project in which they decorated a tote bag (Class 8 used cool German words, Class 9 used German idioms) and wrote a letter in German. Their bags will now be sent off to another German class. In return, our students will receive a bag and letter from somewhere around the country.
