Stone Carving in the Outdoor Classroom

Karyn Gray —

Students in Class 9 Outdoor Classroom with Simon have been working hard to carve creative and whimsical statues made from Oamaru limestone.

Many students choose to incorporate kōwhaiwhai patterns in their work or symbols such koru, pikorua, matau, or porowhita.

While most students are eager to take their work home to decorate their bedrooms and gardens, many students have donated their beautiful statues to the school.

You may notice them amongst our beautiful landscaping at Raphael House!
