Mānawatia a Matariki

Irene Cheung —

As the Matariki constellation rose this week - we launched into our week of Matariki activities.

Classes in the Lower School and Kindy were assigned a whetu-star from the constellation that they were tasked with incorporating into linked activities.

Matariki - class 1 (mother of all stars)

Waitī / Waitā - class 2 (fresh and salt water, twins (2))

Waipuna-ā-Rangi - class 3 (rain,storms)

Tupuānuku - class 4 (earth food kumara)

Tupuārangi - class 5 (sky food birds)

Ururangi - class 6 (wind- rebellion of Tawhirimatea)

Pōhutukawa - class 7 (remembrance of those who have passed)

Hiwa-i-te- Rangi -kindy (wishes, desires, hopes)

Across the week, we have had baking bread and biscuits, music, waiata, kapahaka activities, art and story-telling in different classes across the school.

As we head in our first Matariki holiday, take the time to connect with your whānau and have a safe weekend.
