Term 2 Industrial Action Updated June 9

Karyn Gray —

Although you may have heard in the media that primary teachers have accepted their offer, this does not affect our school as our primary teachers are part of the area schools collective agreement rather than the primary teachers collective.

We have been notified this morning that the offer has been rejected by secondary teachers, which also means the area schools collective is affected.

Industrial action has been notified for the next three weeks to include two class groups per day (Monday-Thursday) not to be taught by any non union PPTA staff on those days. Because basically all of our secondary staff are union members this means we will have to roster those year groups home on those days. These days are listed below.

The exception is Class 10. As Class 10 ere scheduled to be on Class 10 play for the next three weeks and the director of the Class 10 play is not a PPTA memebr Class 10 will not be rostered home and will attend every day as usual.

We do all hope that this action will see a swift end to this industrial action and an offer made that secondary teachers can accept.

We have yet to be notified of any industrial actions to be taken by the primary teachers within an area school.

Week 8:

Rostered Home:

  • Monday June 12 Class 11
  • Tuesday June 13 Class 8 & 12
  • Wednesday June 14 Class 9
  • Thursday June 15 Class 11 & 12

Week 9:

  • Monday June 19 Class 8 & Class 9
  • Tuesday June 20 Class  11
  • Wednesday June 21 Class 8 & 12
  • Thursday June 22 Class 9

In addition on Wednesday June 21 no PPTA staff will be involved in any extra curricular activities.

Week 10:

  • Monday June 26 Class 11 & Class 12
  • Tuesday June 27 Class 8 & 9
  • Wednesday June 28 Class  11
  • Thursday June 29 Class 8 & 12

In addition to these actions teachers are working 8-hour days which for us is 8.15am to 4.15pm and will not be available for meetings outside of these times.

We have been notified that there will be a Paid Union meeting for staff in Week 10 where staff will be voting on industrial actions for term 3 if the matter is not resolved by then. This could involve further class groups being affected on the day of the Paid Union Meeting. When we have been notified of this day we will let you know.
