Upper School Curriculum 2023
As part of our review of curriculum and curriculum delivery this year we have looked for ways to allow a deeper more engaging approach to learning. Student voice has also revealed a desire for this.
Therefore next year we are going to trial for the year, moving to three 90 minute (approximately) spells a day in the Upper School. This will be Main Lesson in the first spell followed by two Practice Lesson spells.
We are also going to trial running practice lessons in 3 week blocks like we do with Main Lesson. It is our goal that this provides learners with time to deeply engage with a subject and the subject matter for a three week period and then "put that learning to sleep" for a little while and engaging with another subject in a deeper sense. This is very similar to the pedagogy (science of teaching) used in Main Lessons.
Practice Lessons and Electives will have a very similar amount of time over the course of the year that they do now.
We will be gathering teacher and student voice as well as whānau voice throughout the year and modifying our plans where possible in order to be responsive to that feedback.
