New Zealand Certificate of Steiner Education

Karyn Gray —

Special Character Update

At Rapahel House, like most of the other NZ Steiner schools, our students study towards the Certificate of Steiner Education in their last three years of schooling. NZCSE is a nationally approved and endorsed qualification that operates on a similar basis to NCEA and students can gain University Entrance from it.

The NZCSE supports the special character of our curriculum by including assessments in subjects such as Eurythmy and by requiring assessment credits across a broad range of subject areas in line with the approach to the delivery of a broad curriculum with all compulsory elements until Class 11.

Results from teacher assessments are moderated both internally - within the school and externally - from other schools using this qualification - to ensure there is consistency. This qualification which was developed in New Zealand is now being used by a range of schools across Australia and Europe.

In 2021 all students who were at school in Term 4 passed the NZCSE for their level.  We are delighted to share the 2021 results below.

Class 10 - Level 1

Passed:  12%, Passed with Merit:  44%, Passed with Distinction:  44%

Class 11 - Level 2

Passed: 26%, Passed with Merit: 44%, Passed with Distinction: 30%.

Class 12 - Level 3

Passed: 15%, Passed with Merit: 40%, Passed with Distinction: 45%.

Congratulations to the students who worked hard to achieve these great results. Thank you also to the teachers who supported them.

Also a thankful acknowledgement to Amelia Minogue - our NZCSE Coordinator who has an oversight of all of the practices and procedures around NZCSE and ensures it all happens as it should and to Gita Pillai who does a huge amount of the administration required of the NZCSE data.
