Introducing Sue

Eurythmy

Kia ora i te kura o Rapaera,

I came to Raphael House in 2011 from Te Ra Waldorf School on Kāpiti Coast and before that Taikura Rudolf Steiner School in Heretaunga. When I am asked what I do for a living, my response of Eurythmy teacher is usually met with, “What is Eurythmy?”

And my answer?

In a Waldorf school Eurythmy is taught throughout the students’ school life. In the senior school years the subject becomes a performing art. Like any performing art it has many forms, but in its pedagogical setting Eurythmy asks each indivdual in the class to become aware of the strengths and weaknesses of all in the group and to move artistically in formation. Additionally eurythmy asks each individual to adjust to any mistakes or hesitations another may make, in the moment, in movement, and all this without speaking.

This is the germ of social justice in action. What a gift it is to have the honor of teaching this subject.
