Introducing Tim

Upper School Math & Science

Hi, I’m Tim Angus, Upper School teacher for 10 years now (it doesn’t seem that long…). And before that I was 10 years a ‘school parent’; my 3 children all came to Raphael House and completed to Class 12. Last year, I described myself as one of the US Maths teachers along with my truly wonderful and amazing colleague Merlin.

This year will include teaching some Biology as well. Which makes perfect sense as back in the distant past I gathered up 2 degrees in Agricultural Science and Genetics. And then I worked as a Plant Breeder/Research Scientist in the Horticulture Industry for 10 years before teaching Horticulture, mostly to apprentices, for about 13 years. And there was Mathematics (mostly statistics) all through that.

Maths was my first language (well sort of…); I could count before I could read (not that surprising as I am dyslexic) and was 7 years old when biology - plants, orchids in particular; and farming – caught my attention; and 14 years old when I found genetics. And then when I started working, and training Horticulture staff I found to my surprise that teaching was a very cool thing to do.

I am truly lucky; my happy place is being with young people/teenagers/young adults, seeing understanding develop, and to see the individual discover what might be possible; maths, and now biology (both also my happy places), happen to be the medium with which I work.

I look forward to meeting you all.
