Year 4 Camp

Sandra Thomas —

Last week on Tuesday and Wednesday Year 4 had their first ever school camp. They slept overnight in Matanui and spent the days at the Omaka Scout Camp and Bottle Lake Forest.

The weather was fine when it needed to be and they had a wonderful time. At Omaka they built rafts, learned how to slackline, fed eels, messed about in the stream and enjoyed the waterslide. Mal and Zac, the Youthtown instructors, provided a great programme. At Bottle Lake they learned about bush survival from the ever entertaining Warren the Park Ranger, which included what they could build for shelter and what 'yummy' things they could eat! They finished the day with a terribly exciting water fight. Sleeping overnight in the hall was challenging, but they did love it and we are very grateful to the parents who gave up their time to stay overnight and who did so much to make sure children were well fed and well looked after. It was definitely a memorable experience!

Thanks to: Kristina, Kate, Brad, Rich, Mel, Sarah, Nicole H and Abby for having the courage to stay overnight.

Also thanks to Fiona, Kirsten, Bethaney, Nicole F, Thomas and Annie for providing extra transport.

Finally thanks to all Year 4 whānau for the huge amount of delicious baking you sent along and for making sure your children were very well equipped to cope with all of the activities. Photos from camp will be shared with you soon!
