Redwood Perform at the Christchurch Cultural Festival

Redwood Primary School —

On Tuesday 27th October, our Junior and Senior Kapa Haka Performance groups performed at the Christchurch arena as part of the Ōtautahi Cultural Festival. This was the first public event for many of our tamariki who represented our school with pride.

The Juniors were the second performance of the evening and received a great reception from the audience. Other kaiako were impressed with their abilities for such a young group.

Our Senior group were equally well received with their Haka and the organising committee were particularly impressed with their displays of Respect as they moved around the arena and interacted with staff.

I would like to take this opportunity to give a special thanks to our tutors who have worked hard to develop the programme under particularly trying times this year.

Our tamariki enjoy Kapa Haka with Whaea Debby and Matua Wiremu who tutor the Senior group, and Whaea Wiani who tutors the Junior group. The groups consist of 45 and 37 tamariki.

I would also like to thank Sarah Burt, Cindy Giddens, Matua Nick and Whaea Jan. Your support was invaluable on the night and made the evening run smoothly.Lynda SelwoodTeacher in Charge of Kapa Haka and Te Reo Māori

Feedback from a family: "We have just left Horncastle where we watched the Junior and Seniors perform. They were all outstanding! What a wonderful display. The children, parents and teachers should be immensely proud. Thank you SO much to everyone and congratulations."
