Nick's Notes 21 September 2023

Nick Gunn —

The PTA's Encore Event on the 9th was a huge success!

Encore 2023

A huge thanks to Jenny, who was the main organiser of the event! She was ably supported by Amy and the wider PTA. It was fantastic being able to showcase our talented tamariki in a safe and nurturing environment. Thanks to our staff who supported with performance groups, whānau for bringing your tamariki and purchasing tickets to support them, and of course our student performers! I can't wait to see what Encore 2024 brings!

Community Consultation

In this publication, and published separately yesterday you will see this important article on the school's strategic focus for next year.  Please complete the survey linked to this article to support the Board's mahi in this area. Note that the survey will only record one response per family. Thank your for the responses so far.

2024 Class Placements

Soon we will begin preparing class groupings for next year. In this publication is information on 2024 class placements and how you can share information which may help us place your child. Please read this carefully - there is a deadline involved and this is not an opportunity to select or share your preference for a particular member of staff. You may have noticed that we are currently advertising for an additional teacher for 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to reduce class sizes and support student achievement particularly in the Year 3 to 6 area of the school. A big thanks to our Board of Trustees for helping to make this staffing opportunity possible.

Staffing Update

We wish Miss Stevenson all the best as she finishes up this week to begin her maternity leave and the beginning of an exciting and life changing journey: parenthood! Maddie will make an amazing mum. We will keep you posted on her upcoming "arrival"!

We welcome Alison Bjork who will teach in Room 4 in Term 4. Alison is an experienced teacher who has already spent time in Rooms 1-4 getting to know the staff and students. A strong appointment.

Also joining us next term is John van den Brink. John will work in the Paerangi Team on Thursdays providing leadership release for Miss Muir. Thanks to Amberley Harding who had been providing maternity cover for Emma Titular who previously held this position and  resigned recently. John is a great fit for the school and we are looking forward to working with him.

I would also acknowledge our whole team across our kura - from the office to the grounds staff,  teaching and support staff. Redwood is lucky to have such a skilled and committed team - have a well earned break!

Working Bee

We are hoping to have the native garden area ready for planting very soon. We are planning on holding a working bee on Sunday 8th October to plant this area out in natives trees and shrubs.

We are currently working through some issues with the condition of the soil in this area (very compacted). We will confirm the date of the working bee soon, once we have resolved the ground conditions. Please save this date - we will keep you posted.

School Holidays

I hope you manage to take some time away from work to spend with your families. James (my youngest) and I are off to Blenheim for his 12th Grade Football Tournament in the first weekend, then we have the rest of the first week in Wellington/Kapati Coast area to spend time with friends and Katherine's whānau.

Thanks for your continued support.

Ngā mihi

Nick
