Education Outside the Classroom [EOTC]

Parent Information —

Practical experiences in the outdoors are vital to growing children. As teachers we value the opportunity to help children meet and overcome new challenges, to “climb high”, which in turn help them to develop confidence and self-esteem. Another key aspect is to develop community or team (ohaoha) in our children.

At the Junior level this may include day trips in and around our local community. From Year 3 up a graded experience is provided which may include a “camping” aspect. This may mean an overnight stay at, or close to school for younger children, developing to an extended camp further afield for Years 5 & 6.

The school has an EOTC policy including Risk Minimisation procedures. These are followed by all staff when planning trips.

At the time of enrolment you will be asked to sign a permission slip regarding trips within walking distance of the school. Other trips away will have separate permission slips for you to sign. If unsure about camps or trips away from school, please ask your child’s teacher in the first instance.
