My Swimming Diary, by Daniela

Daniela M —

Day 1 / 14.9.20 - Today at swimming I was put into the highest group which I was super happy about! We learned how to do sculling while floating on our backs!

We had to have our feet facing forward so that if we were in a river or strong rip , having our feet forward we would be more safe! As our feet could indicate were rocks and things are! The purpose of this was to know what to do if an incident like this occurred in the water! I had a lot of fun today and enjoyed seeing my tutor from my lessons that I do on Saturdays! I would appreciate it if we had a little more time in the pool or at least some playtime! Apart from that I really enjoyed today and look forward for tomorrow. Also I am very excited to see what else we learn! I rate this day 8.2 out of 10!

Day 2 /15.9.20

Today it didn’t start of so well, the bus was a little bit late but we managed to get there in time! Anyways we did the same thing but with a little twist, our lesson felt a bit longer! We learned how to duck under waves in an emergency so that we dont hurt our necks or get injured! We also did diving! We pencil dived into the water and did sculling on our backs, we did it forward and backwards, in other words I call it river sculling on our backs. We did pencil diving and normal diving a couple of times! Close to the end we did dolphin diving and had a handstand competition at the deep end, But saying that we also had a competition on who could touch the ground with our hands! I really liked the diving and would enjoy it if we did it tomorrow, I rate this lesson an 8 out of 10!

Day 3 /16.9.20

Swimming is starting to come a bit more familiar! However we got to go on a fancy travel bus! The bus included a T.V, seatbelts, arm rests, air conditioning and cubby holes! As we got to the pools we scurried through the reception area! We got undressed and went over to our group! Our swimming teacher did the roll as we walked to the pools! We pencil jumped in and did a safety roll turning onto our back and sculling backwards! We lined up against the wall and had to scull without touching the walls and stay in one spot for 3 whole minutes! That’s not all we also had to float on our backs for 2 minutes! Which wasn’t as hard as the sculling! We got to have a little play for about 40 seconds! Shortly after our lesson had ended. We hopped out and got dressed then went outside! The bus arrived and we got to ride back to school in style!

Day 4/17.5.20

Sadly, we were not able to go on the futuristic bus today ! But we were able to do some fun stuff! We hopped on the bus and drove to the pools! As we got there we almost melted because of the heat of the sun, I felt like I could just fry an egg on the metal seat outside! Anyways we slowly dragged ourselves through the reception area and got undressed. When got to the pool seats my group safety jumped into the water it was a relief the heat! We sculled on our backs and squirmed around. As we lined up against the wall we got a pool noodle and learned how to save someone if they are stuck in a river! I partnered up with Lucia and we helped each other learn how to save people from a strong current! Soon after we did some dolphin diving and then we had to get out. As we got out my buddy came to me in excitement and told me she learned something new! We got dressed and lined up in the heat outside for the bus to arrive! I almost fell asleep on the bus but then we got back!

Day 5 /18.9.20

So today at swimming our bus luckily arrived as we walked out. My buddy and I got onto the bus in excitement. As we arrived I could see my aunty with my cousin. I said hi to them and they both waved back. We walked through the reception area to the pools and got into our groups. My group had a discussion about water safety and did some really fun stuff. We pencil dived into the deep end of the pool and survival back stroked to the shallow end. The reason for that was because the other group were trying something new in the deep end to become more confident. As we got to the shallow end we had to do Dolphin diving and spinning around to keep our bodies warm. We free-styled back to the deep end and squirmed around for a while. Soon after it was time to get out. I really enjoyed today and felt that we had a little more time than we usually have. My buddy waddled over to me and looked shattered, I could feel her struggle! I rate this lesson 9.5 out of 10!

Day 6 Monday /22.9.20

Today we had to wait a while for the bus! My buddy was begging me to be on the window side so I said yes or otherwise I would have made her sad. I could hear the sound of rumbling as we exited the bus. I could see my cousin jumping up around in the air. We walked through the reception area to the pool seats. My buddy and I got undressed into our togs and waddled to our group! My group and I did some really fun stuff including, Throw ropes. No goggles, free time and walk the plank. We were not able to have our goggles so that we would know what to do in an emergency when you don’t have goggles. I partnered up with Payton and Lucia. Lucia aimed where I was and threw out the throw rope while Payton was reeling me in. We rotated that activity and then moved onto the walk the plank activity. The plank was a slippery blue foam board. We had to stand on the end and do pencil dive jump into the water. As we finished rotating we got to have free time in the pool. I really liked today and rate this lesson 10 out of 10!
