Matariki 2020

Pauline Prescott —

Friday 24 July was a beautiful day to celebrate Matariki 2020.

This year, our celebration for Matariki was a little bigger than previous years. We opened it to a community event, inviting our whānau to attend throughout the day, including shared kai in the hall. The aim of the day was to build a tuakana/teina atmosphere celebrating whanaungatanga across our school through the celebration of Matariki.

Tamariki chose activities during the day organised by our Student Leadership Team, and worked with the Hub Buddies with the kite making.

  • Chalk drawing
  • Paper star chain
  • Lanterns/stars/origami
  • Relay
  • Rakau stick games
  • Koru creation
  • Model marae
  • Weaving
  • Word searches/colouring/dot-to-dot
  • Balloons

We all had lunch in the hall, including some tomato soup, brownie and muffins which Mrs Selwood made from produce out of our own school garden.

The day was finished off with kite flying.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a great event.
