Whānau Hui 2020
Lynda Selwood - August 18, 2020
The purpose of our hui was to connect with the whānau of Māori learners to find out what we are doing well for their tamariki at Redwood School and learn more about their vision for their tamariki throughout their Redwood years.
The following is a summary of the feedback and the discussions that took place.
What are we doing well for your tamaiti?
Kapa Haka classes
Te Reo Māori lessons
Awareness of the Māori culture
Consistently celebrating Māori special dates and events
How would you like us to celebrate your tamaiti successes?
Assembly certificates for using te reo or efforts made in Kapa Haka
Highlighting Māori achievement.
Plan excursions or visits outside of school to give a practical context or perspective of the te reo language fitting in with Māori culture.
A Facebook whānau page for Te Reo group.
Kapa Haka group to perform at every assembly.
What would you like to see at Redwood for your tamaiti?
Opportunities for our Kapa haka groups to perform in fun and competitive events and festivals
Te reo instruction for all levels of knowledge and understanding.
Lots of encouragement and lots of opportunities to use te reo Māori and tikanga.
