Papanui High School Term 4, 2018 - Night Classes -  As the weather gets warmer and the evenings get longer it is the ideal time to get out of the house and learn something new and meet some new people by taking part in one of the wide range of nightclasses on offer at Papanui High School for Term 4 beginning from Tuesday 23 October. We have a wide range of courses to choose from and guarantee you will find something to appeal regardless of age or interest.

We offer classes in Languages, Tui-Na (Traditional Chinese Massage), Woodwork, Beekeeping, Dressmaking, Art, Cooking, Yoga, Pilates, Ukulele, English for Speakers of other languages, Photography and more. Junior Football and Netball Summer League 2018/2019 - Held on Friday afternoons & evenings at our Christchurch Central, Hornby and Howzat stadiums this is a 6-aside indoor football competition for all junior players, 8’s & under through to 18’s & under (15’s – 18’s 5-aside) while indoor netball is 7-aside 10’s & under through to 16’s & under being catered for.

Our last season’s competition was very successful with over 500 children participating. As well as social teams, many were club teams playing together in their off – season, keeping up their fitness & skill levels whilst staying in contact with team mates. The season will commence on Friday 19th October & continue through until finals are held 13th April 2019. Teams and individuals can enter via our website www.actionindoorsports.com. AllRight? Amble - Sunday 7 October.  10.30am to 2.30pm starting at the Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, Rolleston Ave.  Distance: 2km, Rain date: Sunday 14 October.  NO dogs. 

Part treasure hunt, part orienteering, this is a fun family walk with a difference.  Pick up your map from the Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre by 1.45pm and scout out hidden delights.  Collect a stamp at each point and return your map for a prize!  Great day out for friends and family.

Spring is on the way and so is The Breeze Walking Festival, 29 September to Sunday 14 October 2018.  Now in its seventh year, the festival offers 50 free walks with a range of easy, medium and challenging routes. Many of the walks combine the chance to learn more about nature, culture, history and new developments around our city and region.

The opening weekend sees the return of the popular feature walk 'Dogs Day Out' that begins with a guided scenic walk in the Heathcote Valley and then the opportunity to explore Ferrymead Heritage Park at your leisure with doggie-tram rides, free micro chipping for Christchurch registered dogs, and lots of treats for dog lovers of all ages!

Exciting new additions to the 2018 event are: Discover Quail Island, Walking Netball, walk from the Malthouse to Cracroft along the Heathcote river, view the Historic Glentunnel Museum and surrounds, the stunning Hinewai to Look Out trek, explore the East with the Rawhiti Roam and the NEW Allright? Amble in Waimakariri. Back by popular demand are the exciting and interactive walks designed specifically for pre-schoolers and children: the Gruffalo Explorers, Pukeko Stomp and the ever muddy Going on a Bear Hunt, as well as many other family friendly walks.

So get your family and friends together, head outdoors and put some spring into your step with The Breeze Walking Festival.

JUNIOR TRIATHLON PROGRAMME

Canterbury Triathlon will be running its annual summer programme for children aged 10 year and above. With 2 sessions per week incorporating swimming, cycling and running triathlon is an inclusive sport that is fantastic for overall fitness and skill development.

PAK’nSAVE TRIATHLON FESTIVAL

This event is held the weekend before the primary schools triathlon championship on the same course. It is open for children of all levels so is an ideal build up for those doing the champs race or an option for those that might have missed out. For more details visit www.triathlonfestival.co.nz
