Whole School Swimming Programme

Pauline Prescott —

27 June to 8 July. Updated timetable below

Do you have any spare swimming costumes that your children have outgrown? Do you have any old towels? We would love to have some spares at school, boys and girls costumes, plus towels.

Swimming and water safety is an important and compulsory part of our Physical Education Programme.  The aim of our swimming programme at Graham Condon Recreation and Sport Centre is to develop students' swimming, water safety and survival skills.  The children will receive a 25-minute session each day under the guidance of qualified swimming instructors.  Children will be grouped according to their strengths and needs, with approximately 10 children per group.

Classes will swim at the same time every day for the two week programme.

We would like some parents to help us with supervising children.  This would involve helping children put their gear in the right places, taking children to the toilet and helping children get changed at the end of swimming time.  We will need some male adults (fathers, grandfathers, uncles or brothers) to assist us with the boys and their changing in the public changing rooms.  Please let the class teacher know if you are able to help.

The cost this year is $60 per child.  Once again the PTA have subsidised the bus cost to keep the price down for parents.  Thank you to those who have paid the swimming contribution so far.  Payment can be made by cash or eftpos at the office or by bank transfer (put your child's name and swimming as references).  Please contact finance@redwoodprimary.school.nz for bank details or to discuss a payment plan.

Swimming can make our tamariki rather hungry.  It could be a good idea to include a little extra in the lunchbox for these two weeks.  Please make sure each child has a drink bottle of water each day.
