Year 3 / 4 Netball Teams
In Term 2, our Year 3 and 4 tamariki, under the leadership of Aimee Johnston and Tagai Elisara, sent 2 netball teams to take part in the North Canterbury Netball season.
All the games were played at the new MainPower Stadium in Rangiora. Playing in the new stadium meant that the weather didn’t interrupt any of the games. Rangiora is my ‘adopted’ hometown so it was a relaxing Friday night treat for me (plus the hot chocolate treat at the cafe!).
This year the number of tamariki choosing to play had doubled so there were enough for 2 teams. It was a good mix of some children who had previously played, and others who were trying out the game for the very first time. It was great to see all the children’s confidence grow as the weeks progressed and there were many ‘on the edge of the seat’ games and some amazing goals scored. It brought back lots of memories of when my children played netball!
One thing that really stood out was how much fun the children had. It didn’t seem to matter if we didn’t win as the tamariki were still smiling and bouncing around at the end of the game. Although I’m biased, I can honestly say that they all displayed great sportsmanship and represented their school with pride. Redwood certainly has made a positive impact on North Canterbury Sport and I hope this continues in years to come.
Lastly, thank you to Aimee and Tagai, our wonderful parents who coached and encouraged our tamariki to do their best. Without your support our tamariki would not have had this wonderful opportunity. Thank you also to all the parents who drove to North Canterbury every Friday to watch and support their children.
