Redwood Tamariki Climbing High!

Pauline Prescott —

We have amazing students who are achieving amazing things.

Ava R came second in the Canterbury Swimming Championship, in the 50m freestyle.

Lacy N achieved one first (bar) and three seconds (vault, beam and floor) in her Gymnastics Club competition.

Many Redwood tamariki competed in the McDonald's Youth Duathlon last weekend.

Austen N during his 1st summer season of athletics did extremely well  and based on points across all disciplines (60m, 100m, 200m relay, long jump, discus and shot put) managed to place 3rd 9 year old overall in Canterbury (including West Coast, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury).

Other achievements over the season included placing 1st 9 year old boy at his club – University of Canterbury for both Club Nights (Wednesdays) and Interclub (Saturday competition) and was also receiving the cup for Junior Boy at University of Canterbury aged 7-11 years.

Based on his results, Austen was thrilled to be chosen to be part of the Canterbury Children’s Representative Team that travelled with to Nelson for a Canterbury vs. Tasman competition.

It was fantastic to see him in his first Canterbury uniform and see/hear the team singing and chanting together. After an exciting day in the sun, all the kids did Canterbury proud and brought home the cup.

As you can imagine – there are a few cups/ribbons and certificates taking over the shelves in his room now!
