Ferrymead 2019

As part of Team Whakatipu’s inquiry based on change (particularly focusing on how toys have changed over time), we visited Ferrymead to experience what it was like to live in the past. Below are some recollections by the children in Room 7.


My favourite part about Ferrymead was making love heart cookies and the Thaumatrope with a fish on it.

At Ferrymead I liked making the biscuits and I liked it when the teacher smacked the cane on the table and I jumped. I also liked going into the pretend jail because it was talking in there.

At Ferrymead I liked the cookies and the jail because it was spooky.

Amelia

I liked baking cookies and playing up a tree.

Sedar

I liked that you could make a cookie and I liked playing tag. I liked when we got to see the BIG Oven. We got to eat the cookies.

Oscar

We got to make cookies and after we got to eat them.

I liked baking the cookies. I made a Gingerbread Man.

Tyrell

I liked going to the jail because the men in there could talk because there was a Radio in there.

Izzy

I liked wearing the green dress and making a circle cookies.

Paige

I loved Ferrymead because of the baking and the class school pretending. I loved the chalk and I loved having lunch there playing around.

Violet

I loved Ferrymead because I made a biscuit and ate it at the end. I got to make a toy called a Thaumatrope.

Bodie

I liked the baking part and the jail because it was like the jail, people were actually talking it was scary.

Sophia

I liked cooking the biscuits and learning about the big oven.

Lorcan

My favourite thing at Ferrymead was when I made the cookies because it was fun and I liked it. I want my school to be like that and I really liked the clothes.

Doing the baking, it my favourite part about Ferrymead. I liked the puppets, the pigs where my favourite.

I liked the cane the teacher banged it on the desk in the school.

I like coach. I want Train sit. I like food, chips and popcorn, and I like make biscuit.

I liked that Ferrymead making the wee things called Thaumatrope and also playing with the hand puppets.

I liked the jail because I liked the people that talked but it was only a radio. I liked jail bars because the people couldn’t get out.
