Blown Away in Room Three!

Lynda Selwood & Nick Gunn —

Last week, Room Three read the poem Windmill In Old Amsterdam.

There was lots of talk and learning about what a windmill was and the purpose of this structure. The poem is actually the first verse of an old song which you can see animated in this clip.

In response to the poem, the tamariki made their own windmills from a piece of card and a drinking straw. We had lots of fun testing our windmills with “wind” created by some electric fans.

Check out the action below!

Make your own windmill at home! We substituted the pin attaching the card to the straw with a partially straightened paperclip. Stapling the corners of the card to the centre also made the windmill stronger and easier to make.

Windmill Joke:

What’s a windmill’s favourite colour?
