Hauora (Health & Wellbeing)

Avi Jayasekara - September 26, 2024

In health and physical education, the focus is on the well-being of the students themselves, of other people, and of society through learning in health-related and movement contexts.

Ministry of Education’s Relationships and Sexuality Programme (RSE).

As part of our Health & PE curriculum this programme is important for developing student competencies that promote and sustain wellbeing strategies that support individuals as well as each other. Through teaching this topic each year, we hope to prepare our young people about how to successfully navigate the range of relationships that they will experience as they move from childhood, to teen years and then adult life.

The school has designed lesson plans that will be undertaken by each teacher. This will ensure that we have consistency over content and delivery at each year level. Prior to school-wide lessons being delivered during the year, whānau will be informed about each term’s RSE topics.  On request, lesson content can be made available.

Should a family not want their child to participate in a particular lesson due to its content, they will be able to request this. It will be important that students are always supported and not treated differently by others if they are withdrawn.
