What To Do When Your Child is Absent
It is the responsibility of every parent & caregiver to notify the office before 9am every day your child is absent (unless you give us a definite return date in advance). This is the same as booking leave from work or letting your boss know you won't be at work when you are sick. You can use any of the following methods: telephone 04 939 0186, email office@rewarewa.school.nz or use the absence notification on Hero or our website. If you telephone and your call is not answered, it means that we are already busy, so please leave a message (you will need to let it ring for 35 seconds to get voicemail). It is not helpful to call repeatedly instead.
Tell us the reason for your child's absence. The government is working towards higher daily attendance and NZ schools are continuously monitored for unjustified absences. Our daily roll is automatically accessed by the Ministry of Education and interventions required after 5 days of unjustified absence. Please help us to to mark your child's absence appropriately.
If your child is absent when the roll is marked and the office has not heard from a parent/caregiver, we will call you to find out where your child is. We do not risk the safety of a child by making an assumption about where they are and neither should parents. So, please answer calls from school or call/email us straight back.
If your child has any vomiting or diarrhoea, it is important to tell us! You must keep your child away from school for 48 hours following the last episode to help prevent the spread of illness. We currently have a student for whom vomiting and diarrhoea has severe implications and will require hospitalisation; we need to alert families of vulnerable students if there is vomiting and diarrhoea at school.
We have an amazing community at Rewa Rewa School and we value working in partnership with you to keep our kids safe and well!
