Eid Celebration to mark the end of Ramadan

Alex Schwass —

More than 2000 people gathered in Christchurch on Sunday 9 June to mark the end of Ramadan.

Since the Christchurch terrorist attacks earlier this year, some of Christchurch’s finest chefs were determined to help make this event an extra special day for Muslim families.  With the help of five of our altruistic senior students and a few others from around the community, an amazing evening was had.

Our fabulous contributor to the school, Jonny Schwass, says he was determined to deliver quality food and spent time in the kitchen with Muslim women to perfect their recipes.  He was humbled by the experience and the chefs involved were so grateful to the students who volunteered their time to help.

It is believed that up to $30,000 worth of food was donated to the event and with many hours of time given by all involved, it was a hugely rewarding experience.  Our students portrayed the true meaning of Manaakitanga and the Riccarton Wairua.

Thank you to Rachel Anderson, Sadiyah Nisha, Te Marino Roberts, Ashleigh Lee, and Sahiti Peddisetti.
