It is great to see our ex-students doing amazing things!

Angus Gourlay —

Alyssa Whinham, who finished school at Riccarton High School last year, has been really making her mark on the Football A-League over in Australia!

Alyssa played for the Riccarton High School First XI for five years and in that time won 4 titles. She also picked up the RHS Sports Women of the Year awards 3 times.

Alyssa headed over to Australia in December 2021 as a scholarship player but quickly impressed and, after just one month, Alyssa was upgraded to a full time professional player. After initially coming off the bench for the first two games, Alyssa earned the right to start for her team and has now established herself as a key player for the team's midfield. Alyssa scored the teams 2nd ever goal for the franchise with a reaction that went viral around the globe.

Her tremendous play earned her the Young Footballer of the Month award in January, also making her a nominee for Young Footballer of the Year award! If you haven’t yet been witness to Alyssa's reaction to scoring her goal and her follow-up interview, then be sure to check it out here: https://www.stuff.co.nz/.../stunned-wellington-phoenix...

Best of luck for the rest of the season Alyssa!
