Level 3 Tourism Field Trip to Hanmer Springs

Cerys Roberts —

During the start of week 8, the Year 13 Tourism students visited the popular alpine resort Hanmer Springs, as part of their Level 3 Tourism studies course.

After a talk with Krissy (Marketing Director, Hurunui Council) about the importance of tourism to the town, students completed a land use survey, looking at tourist products and services around the village.

They also participated in a competitive one hour ‘Amazing Race’ around the village, which set heart beats racing.

Ka Pai, to Luke Inwood, Jared Sherwin, Josh Tomlinson and George Fitzpatrick who won the race and found their winner’s trophy, aka. Olaf in the i-SITE.

After a quick re-fuel on kai and water, we visited the Heritage Resort where we were taken on a tour of the hotel by the manager Duncan.

Back at camp, students were happy to chill out in their rooms and eat the fabulous baked good Ms Le Cren had made us, whilst Ms Roberts, Ms Le Cren and Mr Gunn, prepped a yummy dinner.

In the evening we visited the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools where students were able to relax and swim in the thermal pools.

The following morning we woke to a sharp frost, but that didn’t stop Ms Roberts making the students walk down to the town ready for the final activity of adventure; riding the pedal cruisers around the village and competing in a group round of mini golf.

Lots of fun, laughter, learning and memories were made.

A special thanks to Ms Roberts, Mr Gunn and Ms Le Cren for attendance.
