Brain Bee Finals

Daniel Wei (12CS) —

Last year, Daniel Wei (12CS) qualified for the Australian-New Zealand Brain Bee finals. He travelled to Hobart in December to compete.

The Brain Bee Finale in Hobart had oddly similar vibes to Round Two in Dunedin, but this time, it was bigger and even more competitive. I was fortunate enough to represent the South Island of New Zealand in the competition, which presents a fantastic initiative to introduce neuroscience to young minds.

It offered me the opportunity to develop vital skills including strong study habits, self-teaching, while simultaneously exposing you to fascinating science you’d never learn at school. As a bonus, it created unforgettable memories with friends.

The competition is structured with two rounds, followed by the Australia and New Zealand finals before the elusive International Final.

Year elevens: if you are keen on growing some neurons, this is for you!
