Library News

Sally Brown —

Read on for the latest in our community library.

And the winner is........

During Term 2 and the beginning of Term 3, the library held the Whare Reading Challenge to read up to how tall Mr Haywood is. The winner was Kōtuhi students closely followed by Uranga students. Lots of you got on board with this and the teachers as well. Great to see so much amazing reading going on at our school.

Riccarton High have been lucky enough to host two authors recently, with another on the way.

Author Mary-Ann Scott visited and spent some time with two of our RHS classes talking about her books and the writing process. Students spent time writing for three minutes about any subject they liked.

Takeaway from the sessions: – read bravely and challenge yourselves.

Our second visit was a virtual visit with Author Gavin Bishop who read from his book ‘Atua’. Two classes of students sat and listened to this session about writing and illustrating.

Takeaway from this session: - ‘if you want to be a writer, be a reader’.

Robotics Club is starting at the Library

If you are keen on designing, building and coding a robot – then this is the Club for you. Every Wednesday after school in the Library.

Table Tennis Club in the Library

Who said libraries were quiet, definitely a thing of the past.

We are setting up a Table Tennis Club Monday lunchtimes in the Library. If you are keen, come along. There will be a ladder board and I suspect a teacher or two keen to play.
