Work Day 2017

Rebecca Nicholson, Executive Officer —

On Saturday the 2nd April we had an amazing turn out of parents to help with our annual Work Day – about 45 parents, students and staff came along.

It was a beautiful day and we got all of our planned projects done – and we even had enough people to get some extra painting done as well.

The jobs completed were:

  • Replanting of the garden outside our science block (where plants were lost when the boiler pipes were replaced) – including an irrigation system, putting in new fuchsias, rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias in a range of colours, adding a layer of bark and putting edging along the front of the garden (where some old seats had been removed).
  • Putting in new garden edging in outside our G/H block along with some new plants – this was to fill a space where some damaged asphalt had been removed and to extend the garden. And finishing off the raised garden beds outside G/H with the final few plants.
  • Painted all the seats outside our art block – the garden had previously been tidied up, flaxes removed, and old seating replaced - to create another area for our students to sit and enjoy.
  • All the macrocarpa picnic tables that were put in in January were all stained to help protect them from the elements.
  • Three of the changing rooms in the gym were repainted with a 2 fresh coats of white paint.
  • Gary Churcher (one of our parents) is a plasterer and fixed a hole in the wall in E/F block.
  • Emma Don (one of our teachers) came down with her family and cleaned our 3 school vans inside and out.

All of these projects have helped make our school look so much tidier and well-presented – a place to be proud of.

There are so many people to thank – too many names to list but a great big thank you to all of you who turned up – including our students Pavithra Bowatte and Briar Syme and her sister Katie, who all came back for their second year helping garden and paint; and Asher McNeil and his sister Rosa who are demon painters it turns out.

And to the fantastic bakers who provided an awesome morning tea for us all - beautiful food, bacon sandwiches on the BBQ, and even a coffee van for our morning caffeine fix.

And to our Property Manager, Chris Parr, and Groundskeeper, John Steeds, who worked so hard in the weeks before getting everything ready so the day runs smoothly.

We hope to see you all again next year!
