The Concert Band performed at the Concert Band Festival which was held over the weekend at the Charles Luney Auditorium.

The repertoire included set pieces the band had been working on over the last two terms. 

It was a good experience for them to perform on a large stage with a full range of orchestral percussion to play with, including a huge tam tam (gong) . 

None of us were quite prepared for the massive sound this has when struck with force. 

Thanks to the dedication and energy of our conductor Mr Thorpe the band walked away with a silver award.

For the first time this year the festival has been open to smaller ensembles to perform at. 

Both our Flute Trio and our Clarinet Quartet were awarded a Merit certificate for their performances at St Andrews College on Saturday. 

We are very grateful to our itinerant music staff who give their time to mentor and direct these groups.
