South Island Secondary Schools Junior Netball Tournament Inc.
The SISS junior netball tournament is always a highlight of the year for our up and coming netball players. This year we sent our Yr 9A and Yr 10A teams to compete in what is always a highly competitive tournament with the top netball schools from around the South Island.
The tournament has been held in Christchurch during the first week of the term 2 holidays for 22 years and has become a valuable experience for all players, coaches and umpires to develop and improve their skills and abilities. The school would like to congratulate all players on the way they represented Riccarton High School both on and off the court. A huge thank you to our volunteer parent coaches - Tash Austin (Year 9) and Katrina Roberts (Year 10), for giving their time and commitment to their teams. We would also like to thank our two volunteer student umpires who attended the tournament - Victoria Bee and Emily Austin. Lastly, a big thank you to the numerous supporters who were present throughout the tournament.
9A Team - by Kyra Austin
This year's netball tournament was great for the year 9 A team. Our team became so close and we worked really well together. This tournament has been pretty successful for us as a team, considering we were placed in the combined grade of Year 9 and 10’s. Heaps of our games were very close and on Tuesday we won all three of our games, a rewarding accomplishment that was really exciting. Overall, there were 30 teams and we placed 18th in the competition, which we were all delighted with. Our team would like to thank our coach and our supporters for coming along and helping us. The three days spent together as a team were super fun and I am so proud of how close-knit our team has become.
10A Team - by Sammy Glenworth and Amber Roberts
Our Year 10A team competed in the Junior South Island Secondary Schools Netball tournament in the school holidays and finished 29th overall. We all found the tournament a fun challenge and loved the experience of versing different teams from outside of Christchurch. Even though we lost the majority of our games, it proved to be a huge learning curve for us as we had been mostly undefeated on our Wednesday games. It was a great opportunity to meet other teams and new people and to catch up with netball friends from other schools. Our team would like to thank our wonderful coach and our supporters for giving up their time to be with us, they were a huge help.
