SISS Netball Tournament Timaru 2015

Rachel Aitken 13EM and Julie Gillespie 13PL —

On Sunday the 30th of August the Senior A netball team piled into a van and headed ALL the way to Timaru for the 2015 South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament.

We all knew that we had a long and tiring week ahead of us and we were ready to take it on and improve on last year’s performance.

Our first game of the tournament was against Avonside Girls High, a really tough team, whom we have learnt a lot from this season. We played really well in that game, holding our own and making them work hard (they won B Grade in the end).

The next two games decided whether we would be playing in the top or bottom 16 of B Grade. We played outstandingly, winning both by a convincing margin and achieving our goal of placing in the top 16.

On Wednesday the team awoke with a fire to win again, hopefully to make it into the top 8. Both games were difficult and the we fought for every point against Timaru Girls High, eventually losing 27-26 at the end of the 4th quarter. Despite exhaustion and pain the girls continued to give it everything they had and we finished in 13th place, winning our last game 26-18 against Mackenzie College.

Overall it was a fantastic tournament with many laughs and some great netball!
