Showcase 2015

On Friday 11 September, the Performing Arts staff and student-led Arts Committee presented the annual Showcase - the fourth since my arrival at Riccarton High School. As usual I was left with an overwhelming feeling of pride. The abundance of talent on display was remarkable when you consider the busy schedules many of the students have. They all performed with passion, energy and commitment, and showed support and kindness to one another, both on and off stage. The Riccarton spirit was well and truly alive last Friday evening and it was doubly pleasing to see this being enjoyed by a full house of family, staff and friends. Well done to all involved. As always, it was a pleasure to work with you all.

Voices Festival

This year we decided to combine the two girls’ choirs to create one larger choir, which Mrs Charlton very cleverly called Fusion. The girls worked tirelessly attending rehearsals and practising their parts, so they could present their best performance in the very popular Voices Festival, which was held at the Charles Luney Auditorium. This was well-supported by many schools and it was hugely enjoyable to see and hear their chosen repertoire. Well done to all the girls involved. You sparkled on stage and sang and grooved with passion and conviction. Awesome job.

Concert Band Festival

This was the second year Riccarton High’s Concert Band was involved in the Concert Band Festival, held at the Charles Luney Auditorium. I was impressed with how well the band played the four contrasting and challenging pieces in our repertoire. The judges commented favourably on many elements of our playing.

By participating in events such as this the students can see and hear other bands from other schools perform and this inspires them to improve their own practice methods, and therefore develop their technique and musicality as a band. Thank you to Mr Thorpe for organising the event.
