ICAS Science competition

Emma Trott —

As part of the extension programme in our junior science curriculum we offer the opportunity to compete in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).

ICAS is an annual skills development assessment program in key areas of learning for students in Years 3–13; assessments are available in Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Writing. Achievement certificates are awarded to all students at a range of levels:

1. High Distinction to the top 1% of students

2. Distinction to the next 10% of students

3. Credit to the next 25% of students

4. Merit to the next 10% of students

5. Participation to all other students

Seventeen students from Year 10 this year took up the opportunity to compete in Science.

We are pleased to say that three Riccarton High School students were awarded with Distinction certificates: Aislinn Rogers, Leah Albrow and Daniel Bruerton; three Credit certificates:  Sian O’Connell, Anusha Raazesh and Owen Tsai; and two Merit certificates: Erin Wood and Lyn Young; and nine Participation certificates.

Well done to all students involved!
