Te Kāpehu Riccarton School

Aeronwy Cording —

Our childcare class has been spending some time over at Te Kāpehu Riccarton School, working with some of our youngest students in our Pūtaringamotu Kāhui Ako.

Our RHS students have been carrying out various activities with each of the 3 classes in team Pātītī, as well as reading with the students in Room 6. We have been delighted at how excited the young children are to see us arrive for each of our sessions and how important it is for us to role model The Riccarton Way to them. It has also been really amazing to see how they fully engage themselves in our activities and enthusiastically play the games we have organised.

Reading to emergent readers is so important, and is an activity we can do at home with younger siblings, other family members or friends. It only takes a short time, and yet it makes such a big difference to the confidence of someone who is learning how to read. The students over at TKR are always excited to have a "big kid" to read to.

This has been such a fun experience!
