As part of a study of an Education for Sustainability Achievement Standard, students visit various parts of the Avon River from source to the estuary to collect data about the rivers characteristics.

Students study aspects of storm-water pollution on the biophysical environment of the Avon River, which is part of an internal assessment. 

The day also includes a presentation on storm water pollution from Jenny Watters, who works for Environment Canterbury.
