Riccarton International

Frances Couling —

As usual, a busy start to 2017! Riccarton High School welcomed 22 new students this term from Thailand, Japan, China and Chile.

Our international student numbers are starting to look very healthy again, so to help us cope with the increased volume of student needs, we are excited to welcome Kai Huang to the International Office. Kai will be assisting on a part time basis, with students’ pastoral needs as of 20 February.

This week Riccarton High School pulled out all the stops for a group of Colombian agents here on a familiarisation tour. The group were extremely impressed with the RHS powhiri, put on by our wonderful kappa haka group. Special thanks to Mike Murray for organising this to perfection. Afterwards they shared a meal with one of our homestay families, which gave the agents a valuable glimpse into life as an international student at our school. All went away with a fantastic impression of Riccarton High School, so we’re really happy with this result and hope to see South American student numbers grow over the next few years.

Today (Friday 17 February) we have  we had our International Welcome BBQ which gives new and returning students to meet and mingle with members of the Riccarton High International Committee and International Peer Support Leaders.
