Riccarton High School in top 10 schools for Shave for a Cure

the Culture Committee —

On the 6th of April, Riccarton High School took part in the annual fundraising event 'Shave for a Cure' which raises funds for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.

The initial fundraising goal for the school was to raise $2000. We organised a 'shave off' at school where all the shavees shaved or cut their hair during a lunch time, and all staff and student were welcome to come along to watch.

Students were given the option to bid on their friends if they wished to shave or cut their hair off - the student with the highest bid got to do the honours!

As the event got closer we had a surprisingly large number of students willing to shave or cut their hair for the cause as well as our youth worker Nicky Exton and eventually Mr Grubb and Mr Saunders who only agreed to shave if we raised $350 between them.

The event itself was a massive success, with the hall almost entirely filled.

Through the event and the shavees own fundraising, we raised an enormous amount of $4595! This put us in the top 10 schools in New Zealand for fundraising efforts.

A huge thank you to goes to everyone who shaved or cut their hair, to the students and staff that supported the cause, and to everyone who helped out on the day of the event.
