What's on in the Library these holidays?
Here are the free holiday programmes we are offering:
Pentagonal Boxes
- 2pm-4pm, Tuesday 4 October . Think outside the square! Check out our cool Cameo Cutter and make a cute box.
Backpack Buddies! (primary aged children and older)
- 2.30pm-4.30pm, Wednesday 5 October. Build a best bud for your backpack using key chains, beads and string.
Spring Blossoms (all age groups)
- 2pm-4pm, Thursday 6 October. Join us for a blooming good time! Create a beautiful paper bouquet.
Charlotte’s Web and the Magic of Spiders (aimed at primary school students, but everyone is welcome)
- 2pm-3pm, Friday 7 October. Celebrate the 70th anniversary of Charlotte’s Web this Arachtober with Dr Spider and Christchurch City Libraries. Are you scared of spiders? You don’t have to be! Meet Doctor Spider (aka Dr. Fiona Cross from University of Canterbury) and learn how magical these eight-legged creatures truly are. We’ll have stories, a treasure hunt, crafts and more!
Ghost Bunting! (all age groups)
- 2pm-4pm, Tuesday 11 October. Have a fa-BOO-lous Halloween! Create some cute ghosties to decorate your place this Halloween.
Iris Folding (6-12 years) Bookings required
- 10pm-11.30pm and 1pm-2.30pm, Wednesday 12 October. Iris folding is a paper craft technique that uses strips of colourful paper folded in a spiral pattern to create cool images that can be used for cards or as decorations. If you'd like to learn how to iris fold, come join us at a library near you and get to make some to take home.
Out of This Card (teens)
- 2pm-4pm, Thursday 13 October. Design your own pop-up diorama! Make your own building, village or city.
Robotics Club is starting at the Library
Thanks to Christchurch City Libraries and Kiwibots; the school has a number of Vex kits for the students to use. The Robotics Club is on every Wednesday after school from 2.40pm to 4pm. Anyone can join in.
RHS Book Club
Twice a term the Riccarton High School Library holds a Book Club for students. Students chat about the books they have been reading, swap books and each give a three word review for their book.
