Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award

Chris Stoop —

Congratulations to Mark Randall (12NP) who completed his Silver award towards the end of 2015. Silver involves a 6 month commitment in all sections.

Mark has been involved in gymnastics, and playing in the concert band for school. He has given service helping at the local Cub Scout pack. Mark and a few fellow Scouts, challenged themselves to complete the Routeburn track tramp to achieve the Adventurous Journey Section.

Vanessa Ye (11WA) and Francesca Zhang (11BU) have both completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Awards. Both girls have played instruments for their Skill, Vanessa the piano and Francesca the violin. The Riccarton community library has benefitted from the girls giving service there on a regular basis, and Francesca has also served on the School Council. Vanessa’s football skills have improved throughout the season, while Francesca has fine tuned her badminton skills. Both students tramped in the Peel Forest area in South Canterbury to complete the Adventurous Journey section. Congratulations on well-earned achievements.

Thank you to all those parents and caregivers supporting their students participating in the scheme. A big welcome to those students just starting the award. It is all about perseverance and commitment, not passing or failing, in other words – just doing it!
