A round-up of some of the happenings in the Art department this term.

Senior Art Exhibition

On Thursday October the 19th the Art Department held their fourth Senior Art Exhibition in the hall, displaying the external folio work by students from the following Senior Art classes: L1Art, L2 Painting, L2 Photography, L2 Art Design, L3 Painting, L3 Photography and L3 Art Design.

This year, and for the first time, the exhibition visitors were encouraged to cast three votes each for their People’s Choice awards for the folios on display. Congratulations to the following students who were the top three award winners for the Senior Folio Exhibition People’s Choice Awards. These were the most voted for folios:

First - Katie Hayles - Level 2 Painting

Second - Ruby Perring - Level 2 Painting

Third - Max Killoh - Level 2 Photography

As well as the People’s Choice awards the Art Department have started a new tradition where we award the 2017 Art Department - Commitment Award. Ka Pai to Mustafa Sheta who won this new award chosen by the Art Department teachers.

The students will receive certificates and prizes. A big thanks goes to National Art Supplies who donated the Art prizes to us.

Thanks to students, whanau, friends and staff who attended this event in record numbers - the best turnout yet.

Photography Scholarship

Congratulations to Hannah Wareing who has been awarded the L’affare Photography Scholarship at the College of Creative Arts, Massey University.

In the letter they sent her to announce that she had won this scholarship they said, “We received a high calibre of submissions and your work stood out and being innovative and thought-provoking.”

The scholarship she has been awarded is to the value of $5000, of which $4000 contributes towards course fees and $1000 she can spend on photography related equipment costs.
