Message and Request from Mr Dave Biddick, Sports Director

Paul Johnston —

The school is looking for an adult who understands the basics of radio control, rigging sails and racing yachts to lead the Radio Yachting group, and a second adult to support the leader.

Radio Yachting has been a part of sport at Riccarton High School for six years now.

The building and racing of yachts has provided many students with skills and knowledge.

The school has a fleet of six yachts designed and built by the Radio Yachting group of 2015. Each yacht has two swing rigs to enable racing in all winds.

We are fully equipped with a trailer, ready to go, with the boats, radios and charging gear, sails and a dinghy, oars, electric outboard motor and safety gear plus buoys to lay a racing course. We can normally arrive and be sailing within fifteen minutes. The City Council has given us a key to access Lake Rua for reliable sailing all year.

We leave for the lake soon after 2:30pm each Wednesday to sail until 4:30pm and be back in school by 5:00pm. Persistent rain and mid-winter cold are the only reasons for staying at school and carrying out maintenance.

The school is looking for an adult who understands the basics of radio control, rigging sails and racing yachts to lead the Radio Yachting group, and a second adult to support the leader.

If you are interested in either role, please could you call the school and pass on a message to the Sports Director for me to call you back and discuss the role with you.
