Music Success

Anne-Marie Plummer —

Toby Buckner (10WS) and Emma McMorran (12CS) have been selected from their recent audition to be part of the National Secondary Schools' Brass Band, which consists of New Zealand's most talented Secondary School Brass and Percussion Musicians.

The 2016 course will be held at the Burnham Military Base in the next school holidays and Emma will be playing first tenor horn and Toby solo cornet.

There are only 36 places in the band and these two outstanding musicians certainly deserve to be playing alongside the finest young talent in New Zealand.

Toby also plays with the Christchurch Youth Jazz Orchestra directed by Scott Taitoko. He is the youngest player in this phenomenal band which is quite an accomplishment.

Emma also plays in the Canterbury Brass Band. We are very fortunate that such talented students contribute significantly to the musical life of the school.

There will be spaces available from the start of term 4 for any students who wish to follow in Toby and Emma’s footsteps and learn to play a brass instrument. A full brass section makes all the difference to the overall sound of the Jazz and the Concert Band. As some of our Year 13 students will be leaving us soon, we need students to fill their shoes. Please email me pl@riccarton.school.nz if your son or daughter would like to try a brass instrument. This is open to Year 9 and 10 students only.
