Powering Potential

Sharyn Varcoe —

Congratulations to Vanessa Ye (12IT) and Kate Stedman (13SN) who have been accepted for Powering Potential this year.

Organised by Royal Society Te Apārangi in partnership with Freemasons New Zealand, Powering Potential will bring many of New Zealand’s most promising science students together from all over New Zealand to work alongside a scientist, who will act as their a mentor over three days.

The students will work in teams of five on a question submitted by their mentor.

The students will then research, investigate and collaborate to provide recommendations.

Only 40 Year 12/13 students nationwide are selected to work together alongside mentors and world-class science leaders to solve some of the biggest issues facing the world.

They will look at questions such as:

What change do you want to see in the world?

What can you do to help achieve it and how can we harness science and technology to get there faster?
