Whare news from Atatū, Uranga, Whaiao & Kōtuhi
The Riccarton Way is the spirit, the wairua that underpins the way we think, act and feel about ourselves, others at the school and those in our local and international community.
By emphasising the key values of commitment, honesty, respect and excellence, the school ultimately promotes a caring, supportive learning culture focused on progress and achievement. Each month we will have information and updates from our 4 whare: Atatū, Whaiao, Kōtuhi and Uranga.
Kōtuhi whare news:
Kōtuhi wishes all of our year 11-13's a studious and successful study and exam period! Remember to do the mahi so that you can get the treats!
On behalf of Mr Anderson and myself, I would like to thank the recipients of the Spirit of Kōtuhi Award, our amazing leaders. Mackenzie, Leah, Aashma and Isaac have worked so hard throughout this year to ensure Kōtuhi was a fun, focused and fair whare. They have had their hearts fully in their work and have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the year has been a success for Kōtuhi. We wish them well for their incredibly bright futures, as well as our other leavers this year.
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata he tangata he tangata! Thank you for all of your contributions this year.
Uranga whare news:
Here in our orange whare we have been busy celebrating the people - with awards going out in assembly for those awesome students who have got Gold status for Te Tohu Wairua (Spirit of Riccarton), who have achieved 100% attendance for the year so far and who have gained a 4.0 on their Fortnightly Grades. Congratulations to these award winners - you uphold the Riccarton Way.
At Uranga assembly Week 7 Term 3, it was great to award our Spirit of Uranga Taonga this time to Mackenzie Vercoe of 11UHN, who received this prestigious award for achieving the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, and being involved fully in the life of the school through the Student Voice Committee, Oliver, Concert & Jazz Band, Choir, Senior theatresports team, Gen Connect, Climbing and more.
Also in our Term 4 assembly we have celebrated our amazing student leaders - Addison, Hamish, Ashmita, Emilia, Jordan, Jorgia - by awarding them the Spirit of Uranga Taonga Award. These leaders have worked hard this year to uplift our whare, have some fun and plan whare and whānau time events that many have enjoyed!
Finally exams are fast approaching for our senior school - so good luck! Juniors make sure you respect our exam areas which will be popping up around school soon.

Whaiao whare news:
This term is an academically busy time. It is great to be celebrating the academic awesomeness of our students at Pō Whakanui on Wednesday night, and at senior and junior prizegiving coming up. Congratulations to all the award winners announced this term. It is so fabulous seeing everyone getting rewarded for all their hard mahi (work).
At our last full Whaiao assembly, we cheered on Connor Carston in WMCY as he did Shave for a Cure. Shave for a Cure is a charity that supports young people who have blood cancers. Connor has been growing his hair for over a year for this charity and decided this is the time to shave it all off. Bhavil Patel, one of our Manukura, did the honours of shaving Connor. What a marvellous act of service to people in our community; Connor has raised over $630!!!
Also at our last assembly, we celebrated the service and leadership of our Whaiao Manukura Bhavil Patel and Loseli Vea’ila, and their Tuākana team Christina Belford, Tanika Nolan, Manisha Munro, and Lily Davies. All year they have organised big events like Big Arvo, Gala Day, and Talent Quest and encouraged people to get involved in all events. They have run our Whaiao Council and our assemblies, and so much more. They have embodied the Riccarton Way all year, in everything they do. We are so proud of them, and it has been a privilege to work with them this year.
