Outstanding Orohaki!

Rebekah Narbey —

Our Year 9 students are in for a terrific Term 2, with Year 9 Camps getting underway on Tuesday the 3rd of May.

Term 1 observed the launch of our Junior camps held out at our amazing facilities at Orohaki in North Canterbury. The Year 10 learning groups have been spending 2 nights and 3 days getting involved in activities such as raft building, overnight tramping, canyoning and bike riding. It has been inspiring to see the students push themselves out of their comfort zones and learn something new about themselves as well as their peers. Many students have come away from camp having developed stronger bonds with their classmates and a sense of achievement for challenging and pushing themselves in the outdoor activities.

We have been fortunate enough that some of our Year 12 & 13 students have been able to attend these camps and help out as leaders while working to create stronger relationships with our juniors. This opportunity has also provided our senior students with a multitude of ways to improve their leadership skills, and by running some of the activities and encouraging the junior students to get involved, this provided the perfect opportunity to solidify the concept of tuakana teina.

Next term our delightful Year 9 students get the opportunity to experience and enjoy all that Orohaki has to offer. Whilst there, they can expect to participate in ABL (adventure based learning) with activities such as low ropes, archery, orienteering and bushcraft. This camp is also a 2-night and 3-day stay, running twice a week: Monday through to Wednesday and Wednesday through to Friday. More detailed information pertaining to the Year 9 camps will be emailed to our Year 9 families in the very near future.

These camps are a compulsory part of our curriculum, as skills such as leadership, resilience and teamwork are what we believe to be crucial in each students development, not just in their school subjects but life outside of school as well.

We look forward to hearing from your tamariki about all the awesome times had at Orohaki!
