Music Soiree

Anne-Marie Plummer, HOD Music —

Last Friday night, the Music Department presented their first 'Soiree', where fifty of Riccarton High School's gifted musicians performed a sensational array of eclectic tunes to an enthusiastic crowd at the funkiest of clubs in Lyttellton (LAF).

This sell-out event was a joy to organise.

With senior music students and a group of awesome Year 10s initiating many of the musical numbers, all I had to do was put it altogether and pick a date.

The dedicated technical team set to work as soon as we arrived at the venue last Friday afternoon in what must be the fastest 'pack in' ever.

But all the preparation and rehearsals that took place leading up to this event were certainly worth it.

Our students continue to excel in this creative environment, demonstrating not only their outstanding ability to perform with such confidence and enthusiasm but also their leadership and their support for one another.

With the cool lighting and mist effects creating a club-like vibe and the table settings laden with scrumptious platters of food, this was a sophisticated and classy event that I, the audience and most importantly the musicians that charmed and dazzled on stage, will remember for a long time to come.
