Riccarton Win at The Willows

Paul Bridgman —

After five years of trying the First XI Cricket team recorded a maiden win at The Willows. Wins out there are hard to come by for the school teams, the Willows teams typical field senior Premier and first-class cricketers.

One notable First XI has lost 15 in a row. On the 6th January this year Riccarton High School won.

Put in to bat on a sultry day we batted our fifty overs to make 212 for 6 with Jonty Hunter contributing 58.

Blake Stocks lead the bowling attack taking 4-32 and Jonty also took four.

With The Willows nine down, needing 14 to avoid a loss and 7 overs to go our captain brought Jaynesh Patel back for his third spell.

He took the winning wicket off the first ball of the over.

The Willows were gracious in defeat, taking pleasure from seeing a school team playing so well.
