Girls' touch team off to the national championships!

Janine Ogier —

The RHS girls’ touch team will be proudly representing our school at the nationals for the first time.

Rotorua hosts this years nationals from the 12th to the 16th of December.  In preparation, the girls have been practising twice a week for months as well as fundraising for the trip. They’d like to give a massive shout out to their coaches - Tama Thompson and Richard Bull, and thank Mana Harema for all his support and management.  These three guys are just awesome.

The team would also like to acknowledge the generous support and funding from The Lion Foundation.

A successful fundraising quiz night was held in October at Robbies in Riccarton, which was a fantastic venue. Many local businesses supported the girls with prizes for both  the quiz and raffle on the night, including Robbies.

The team would like to especially thank the following businesses for their amazing generosity: New World Wigram, Burger Fuel Bush Inn, Crazy Dave’s, Lone Star Bush Inn, the Avonhead Tavern/One Good Horse, Snap Fitness at Bush Inn, 9 Round at Bush Inn, Anytime Fitness Bush Inn, Good Home at Wigram, Fush at Wigram, Hells Pizza Wigram, Joe’s Garage Wigram and BNZ Upper Riccarton.

Prizes were also very kindly donated by Countdown Church Corner, ANZ Upper Riccarton, Black and White Coffee at Bush Inn, McDonalds Riccarton, City Fitness Wigram, Mico Bathrooms and the Canterbury A&P Show Association.

Separately, thanks to Crusader and All Black Richie Mo’unga for his donation of a signed 2019 Crusaders jersey as a sought-after prize for another raffle. The lucky winner was Alan Wood (ticket orange spades F95).
